After a fall that resulted in a fractured ankle, Sallie required rehabilitative care. As an avid gardener and lover of the outdoors, Sallie was devastated to find herself in a walking boot, with limited balance and endurance that made even small tasks difficult. Before her injury, Sallie was fiercely independent. She regularly took walks around her neighborhood and expertly managed her ADLs, finances, and medications. She was determined to return home and resume the outdoor work and independent life she enjoyed.
Through hard work in her Physical, Occupational, and Speech Therapy sessions, Sallie progressed from walking with a walker to occasionally using a mobility aid for comfort as needed. Additionally, she also met her goal of being able to return home where new patio furniture awaited her– a perfect outcome for someone with such a bright outlook!
Improved her Timed Up and Go test (TUG) from 25 seconds to 10 seconds at discharge.
Increased her self-selected walking speed from .63 meters/sec to >1.40 meters per second!
Returned to her home to continue living her life independently.
Enhanced her Brief Cognitive Assessment Tool score from 16 to 18.
