November 13, 2025-- Powerback stands with clinicians and partners in advocating to maintain the flexibilities for telehealth services in PT, OT & SLP for Medicare beneficiaries. These flexibilities previously expired on September 30, 2025, due to congressional inaction. On November 12, 2025, the president signed a continuing resolution extending these telehealth flexibilities through January 30, 2026 and retroactively reinstating these waivers effective October 1, 2025. This extension maintains the elimination of geographic and originating site restrictions, as well as continued eligibility for PT, OT, and SLP providers to furnish telehealth services under Medicare.

Powerback, along with numerous other rehabilitation providers in outpatient and skilled nursing facility settings, remains dedicated to ensuring uninterrupted patient care. Our Regulatory, Compliance, and Clinical teams closely tracked pending legislative proposals and continuing resolutions in Congress that sought to further extend or permanently establish these waivers. As no permanent policy has yet been enacted, we will persist in advocating for a permanent solution and will keep our partners informed of any advocacy opportunities and additional developments.

We strongly encourage clinicians and business partners to engage in advocacy campaigns for further extension of this authority under Medicare. Please reach out to let your members of Congress know how important it is to you and your patients.

Should the waivers expire on January 30, 2026, the primary consequences would include:

  • Termination of Medicare reimbursement for telehealth services in the therapy domains
  • Reinstatement of geographic and originating site requirements, restricting where patients may receive telehealth services

It is important to note that even if these extensions expire on January 30, 2026, physical therapists/assistants, occupational therapists/assistants, and speech-language pathologists may still legally provide telehealth services, to the extent allowed by state practice acts, because Medicare rules cannot override state scope of practice laws. Accordingly, Powerback will continue providing telehealth services in states where permitted by law.

Our mission to improve the lives we touch remains central. We remain confident in our approach and will continue offering high-quality care to all patients, including Medicare beneficiaries.
