Mr. Randle, who was admitted to Starkville Manor for rehab following chemotoxicity, arrived with a number of challenges including a pulmonary embolism, malignant neoplasm of the colon, dysphagia, muscle weakness, and
hypertension. Upon admission, Mr. Randle was on a puree diet with thin liquids and required maximum assistance for toileting, moderate assistance for lower body dressing, and minimal assistance for transfers and bed mobility. His motivation and dedication to therapy proved instrumental in his recovery. He successfully upgraded his diet to a regular diet with thin liquids and is now independent with all dressing, bed mobility, toileting, and transfers.
Mr. Randle can independently ambulate over 1,000 feet with a two-wheeled walker and navigate stairs on his own, with his TUG time dropping from 48 seconds to 16 seconds and his 30-second chair rise increasing from 0 to 11 reps. His BCAT score also improved significantly from 33/50 to 44/50. Educated to return to his prior level of independence, Mr. Randle is discharging back home with his family, marking a return to his former independence.
